While You’re Here
We didn’t plan it this way, but our wedding weekend happens to fall during one of the most exciting times to be in New York. Between the US Open Tennis Championships and New York Fashion Week, the city will be full of energy, events, and people dressed like they have somewhere important to be.
If you’re in town a little early, on the evening of September 11 you’ll be able to see New York’s annual Tribute in Light. Two beams of light rise into the sky where the Twin Towers once stood, and you can see it from different parts of the city. It’s one of those things that always stops you for a second.
For anyone interested in the US Open, there’s also an “Open for All” Community Day on Thursday, September 10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. It’s free to attend, you can walk the grounds, watch matches on the outer courts, grab food, and just take in the atmosphere without needing tickets to the main stadium.
If you’re staying out in Queens or just want something a little more low key, MoMA PS1 is a cool option. It’s a contemporary art space in a converted school building, free to enter, and a good excuse to spend some time in Long Island City, especially if you want to pair it with dinner or drinks by the water.
